At UFA, we have vast experience in running engaging, empowering and fun residentials for young people. What’s more, we love doing it!
This year, we quickly recognised that it may not be possible for all young people to travel home to their families this Christmas, especially international students who are boarding at schools in the UK. With Covid-19 restrictions in force, travelling home for the Christmas break would become a stressful series of delays, quarantine, isolation – and then doing it all over again in the New Year!
A safe, fun Christmas residential for students 13-17
So, we got our heads together with two brilliant organisations – YHA (Youth Hostel Association) and WHG (Whitehouse Guardianships) to see how we could support students to stay in this country safely and comfortably over Christmas, and alleviate any safety concerns that their parents may have.
We came up with ‘Christmas @UFA’ – a four-week residential programme of energetic and exciting activities, in a choice of four of the most beautiful and historic YHA centres in the UK and open to all students aged 13-17.
Covid-19 safety measures
YHA have done an amazing job of making sure their sites minimise every risk of coronavirus infection, with teams of 20 young people who will stick together throughout the programme, Covid-19 safety measures and pre-arrival Covid testing so that students—and their parents—can relax and enjoy their well-earned Christmas break.
We’ve packed every day with opportunities for teams to connect with each other and learn new skills, with everything from outdoor survival to creative thinking workshops to multimedia sessions, taking inspiration from our summer NCS programmes.
Getting into the festive spirit
This is the holidays after all though, so we also want to make sure there’s also time for young people to chill out by the fireside, decorate ready for Christmas and get into the festive spirit!
We know this school year will be different for everyone and these are challenging times for young people, many of whom have had disrupted studies, and been deprived of their social activities and support from their peers over the last few months.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming these young people to Christmas @UFA and we are absolutely determined that they will have a wonderful break and return to school refreshed and motivated for the year ahead.
