Peer Tutor competition deadline April 30th!

Our Blog

Empowerment. Positive role models. Teamwork. Social skills. Better communication. Improved confidence. Leadership opportunities. Social and academic benefit. Post Ofsted priority. Sustainability. Potential. Lifelong learners. Mentors. Perseverance. Creative thinking. Co-operation.

These are just some of the words and phrases which have come out in the applications to win one of our Peer Tutoring programmes. At UFA, we are absolutely delighted to see them there, because they so directly reflect our experiences of the transformation Peer Tutoring can deliver, in the classroom, in a school and in young people’s lives and learning.

In our first competition blog we talked about how tutored students outperform their peers from control groups in exams and are more engaged in the subject matter they are studying. There is also significant evidence that there is a positive impact on Peer Tutors as well as tutees. See the EEF Evidence on Peer Tutoring here.

But it’s sometimes the anecdotal evidence that comes from our programmes which is most powerful. This is a quote from an Education Support Officer at a Virtual School we worked with just a few months ago.

“E said this has helped her become more sociable by speaking to new people, and has become less dependent on her friends, which is just fantastic. E wants to go for Head Girl when she goes into Year 10, which is a huge step forward as she would never have thought about doing something like this before. The UFA mentoring programme has definitely been a huge contributing factor to her growing confidence and self-esteem, and it is so wonderful to see in her.”

If you’d like to know more about the impact of UFA Peer Tutoring watch ‘Peers’ our latest short film capturing one school’s Peer Tutoring story. As this film shows, the benefits of Peer Tutoring can go way beyond attainment.
